A Basketful

10 1/2 x 13 1/2 - SOLD
I could paint apples over and over again and never tire of the subject. There is such beauty in their unassuming simplicity, their basic round shape. They represent times of comfort and joy, of autumn days when one can visit the apple orchards, and enjoy the long-awaited taste of early season Macintoshes and the warmth of hot cider.

Seeing this wicker basket filled with perfectly shaped, mouth-watering apples brought these feeling to mind. As the basket sat on the sunlit tabletop, the light's rays turned this everyday still life into an amazing composition of intense colors and dramatic contrasts. The apples' shimmering white highlights popped against the fruits' crimson skin and dark blue shadows, and their solid masses contrasted with the surrounding intricately woven wicker design. Such beauty in such simplicity! How magnificent the ordinary aspects of our everyday lives can become when we take the time to notice!
